Whether you use ParkChicago© or the pay boxes on the street, hourly parking rates range from $2.50 (outside the Loop and Central Business District) to $4.75 (Central Business District), to $4.75 (West Loop) and $7.00 (Loop).

CHECK SIGNAGE

Always remember to check the on-street pay boxes, ParkChicago, or ParkChicagoMap for specific rates and times for where you parked, along with checking on-street signage posted by the City. The pay boxes and ParkChicago will not accept payment if a parking fee is not required.

  • In Chicago neighborhoods (area outside the downtown area bounded by Roosevelt Avenue to the south, North Avenue to the north and Halsted Street to the west), most rates are $2.50 per hour from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. On Sundays, motorists can park for free in some spaces in this area.

  • In the Central Business District outside the Loop (area bounded by Lake Michigan to the east, North Avenue to the north, Halsted to the west, and Roosevelt Road to the south), rates are $4.75 per hour from 8:00 a.m. to midnight.

  • In the West Loop (area is bounded by Grand Avenue to the north, the I-290 Expressway to the south, Ashland Avenue to the west and Halsted Street to the east), rates are $4.75 per hour.

  • In the Loop (area bounded by Lake Michigan to the east, Wacker Drive to the north and west, and Congress Parkway to the south), rates are $7.00 per hour from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and $3.50 per hour from 9:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Purchased time will be portable and good until expiration at most meters OF THE SAME TYPE OF SPACE AND WITH THE SAME OR LOWER HOURLY RATE (i.e., time purchased for a Commercial Loading Zone is portable only to another Commercial Loading Zone, and time purchased at other on-street meters is portable only to other on-street meters). However, purchased time is NOT PORTABLE between on-street meters and off-street metered lots, OR BETWEEN COMMERCIAL LOADING ZONES AND OTHER TYPES OF ON-STREET METERED PARKING SPACES. If you do move your vehicle to a space where portability is permitted, please be sure to abide by all zone signage regarding restrictions and rules, including all signage of which may be posted on the SAME SIDE OF THE STREET ON THE BLOCK you parked your vehicle. For example, you can move your vehicle from a $4.75 zone to another $4.75 zone or $2.50 zone. If the rate at the new location is higher, you must create a new parking session or pay at the pay box. Make sure to check for rates, parking restrictions on the pay box and permanent or temporary signage to avoid a ticket.

We offer one month parking passes for use at various parking lots throughout the City. Monthly parking passes are ideal for local residents, business owners and employees who are frequent parkers.

Beginning on January 1, 2020, a tax is imposed on the privilege of using in this State a parking space in a parking area or garage for the use of parking one or more motor vehicles, recreational vehicles, or other self-propelled vehicles, at the rate of:

  • 6% of the purchase price for a parking space paid for on an hourly, daily, or weekly
  • 9% of the purchase price for a parking space paid for on a monthly or annual basis.
